Here in York we have a wide range of pubs and bars,we famously have 365  pubs (one for everyday of the year!). With all these options it can be hard to pick where to go but we have compiled a list of some of the best places to go to suit all occasions. From cocktails to real cask ales we’ve got you covered.

1. The Ivy Brasserie.

Hidden in the cellars of The Grange Hotel is this beautiful bar. A quirky and atmospheric mix of melting candles and exposed brickwork with industrial lighting adding an edge to the proceedings. The bar also has live music every night from 7pm varying from jazz to soul, this is the perfect way to start your evening out.

2. Minster Inn

This is an Edwardian ale house serving cask ales in a traditional atmosphere. The bar is divided up into a couple of side rooms so you can relax in your own group or join with the patrons in the main bar. The pub also has a very unique ale yard that is fully enclosed and heated so you can enjoy some fresh Yorkshire air while sipping on your drink.

3. The Exhibition Hotel

Although this pub is based in central York it boasts the cities largest beer garden, so there is plenty of space to sit back and relax in the summer sun. 4. The Bootham Tavern

This contempory but traditional pub offers a variety of cask lagers by the bottle and cask ales on draught. The owners of the tavern have certainly breathed new life into this pub whilst keeping the original charm and quirkiness intact. As well as the traditional ales they also offer a wide range of beers and ciders from around the world .

5. The Hole in the Wall

Found next to one of the gates to the old city of York on High Petergate this traditional red-brick pub serves cask ale and hosts live music and quiz nights. This pub also has a very colourful past, a dungeon was discovered when the building was excavated and a tunnel underneath was bricked up by a superstitions builder after he claimed to hear eerie footsteps echoing in the darkness.

6. Guy Fawkes Inn

This Medieval inn stands in the shadow of York Minster and was the birthplace of the notorious plotter Guy Fawkes. The history that the walls of this pub holds is only enhanced as it is only lit by gas lamps and candlelight, this is a must visit for anybody wanting to experience the history of York.

7. Evil Eye
